Obituary for George Ginther

It is with great sadness that the family of George Weldon Ginther announces that God took him home on 1 January 2024.  He passed away after a serious bout of influenza at the age of 95.  George was born in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, the second of three children to Herman and Elmina Ginther.  His family moved to Toronto, where he later met and married Irene Gresham.  They enjoyed a long and happy marriage of 72 years.  George was trained as a mechanic but spent most of his working life at the printer RG MacLean and then Continental Can from which he retired in 1989.  George’s real passion was for church ministry and was always involved in lay ministry at every church he attended.  His love and devotion to his Saviour, Jesus Christ, was known to all who met him, not just by his verbal witness but also by the generous and gentle way he treated all those with whom he came into contact. His genuine interest in each person’s life, along with his penchant for puns, made him a joy to converse with.

George is survived by his wife, Irene (née Gresham); four children, Linda (Sandy), David (Pat), Ruth (Glen) and Jim (Diana); nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at Steele Funeral Home, 30 Moira St W, Belleville ON, at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 5, 2024.  There will be a short visitation with the family starting at 12:00 pm and a reception will follow the service at the funeral home.
