Obituary for Larry MacKenzie

Larry C MacKenzie

April 15, 1947 – August 22, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Larry C MacKenzie on August 22, 2023, at Kingston General Hospital after a brief illness.   Larry is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Phyllis (nee Barlow).  Devoted father of Ronald MacKenzie (Laurie) and Colleen MacKenzie Blight (Bruce).  Beloved grandfather of Cameron, Sarah, Morgan and Maxwell.   Son of the late Millard and Dorothy (nee German) MacKenzie.  Survived by his sister, Gail Lloyd.  Predeceased are brothers Jim, Ken, and Donald MacKenzie, and sisters Dorothy (Nurse) and Colleen (Manantan).  He will be remembered by several nieces and nephews, along with many friends.

Larry worked many years at Murray Centennial Public School.  When he retired there were many months of “Breakfast with Larry” which he enjoyed immensely with his co-workers.  He had a great love for trains and enjoyed many meals and years of bowling with the CN Retirees.   Coffee with the Tim Horton’s gang brought much pleasure to Larry.  He was a Free Mason of Percy Lodge AF & AM #161, Warkworth, ON.  The fellowship with his Church family at St. Columba meant a great deal to him.

Special thanks to Dr. L. Milne and all the nursing staff in the KGH ICU and Palliative Care who worked to make sure he was comfortable.  As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to St. Columba Presbyterian Church, Belleville, as per Larry’s wishes. Cremation has taken place.  A Memorial Service of Worship will be held on Saturday September 2, 2023, at 1pm at St. Columba Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Jennifer Cameron officiating.
