Obituary for Terry Cassidy

Terry Richard Francis Cassidy passed away peacefully, in his 74th year, on January 15th, 2023, at Hospice Quinte with family at his side. Terry will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Joanne Bélanger and his children Ryan (Julie), Eryn (Emma), Caroline (Greg), Zack (Rebekah), Emma (Josh), Martha (Alex), and Matt (Susan). He was the proud grandfather of Darin, Nik, Evie, Cam, Toni, James, Bailey, Gaven, Wren, Addison, and Rúna. Terry will also be missed by his siblings Len (Birute), Dani (Lou), and Bonnie (Roy), as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by his parents, Dan and Dorothy (née Clarke).

Terry was a champion of his community and the environment, devoting his life to working for others through his career in community development and local politics. He cared deeply about others, always fighting for those most in need, and making service to others a cornerstone of his life. As a politician, Terry served as City Councillor for Sidney Ward in Quinte West for more than two decades and was both a member of the executive and federal candidate (2015) for the Bay of Quinte NDP. Terry was an active volunteer, contributing many hours to various charities and non-profit organizations, most recently as the president of the local St. Vincent de Paul.

A private, family graveside service was held at St. James the Minor Cemetery, Stirling.  Interment entrusted to the Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, Belleville.

A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Terry’s life will be held at St. James the Minor Church, Stirling on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.

Terry’s wish was that the organizations he was passionate about continue to be supported, those who feel inclined, may make donations to Hospice Quinte, Community Partners For Success, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, or Development and Peace – Caritas Canada
